What is CAT?

The Collegiate Animal Team (CAT) is a nonprofit organization of volunteers devoted to caring for homeless and abandoned animals, especially cats, who live on the Caltech campus and nearby grounds. We believe that active maintenance of the population is more humane and effective than neglect and euthanasia. We work closely with the Caltech Animal Team, and many of our volunteers are members of that club.

Our goals are:

• Educate our community about responsible care and treatment of animals
• Promote and encourage active management of the Caltech cat population
• Act as a resource and contact point for the community in matters of cat and other pet care

What Can You Do?

The most important thing is to spay or neuter your pet. Don’t fall for the many excuses and myths people make up for not doing it. If you care for your pet, please do this!

Please don’t abandon pets if you can’t keep them. If you or a friend need to find an outside home for a pet you cannot keep, please contact us -- we can put you in touch with groups who will help find a new home for your pet in a caring off-campus environment.

Please also contact us if

• You see a cat or kitten(s) who looks lost, hungry, injured or sick
• You need to find a low-cost way to spay or neuter your cat
• You find a dead cat
• You have lost a cat
• You need free help or advice with cat behavior or care
• You want to adopt a cat or kitten
• You have been feeding homeless cats and are not yet affiliated with CAT
• You would like to help or make a donation (money, cat food, etc.)

Helping the animal population on the Caltech grounds takes daily feeding and monitoring, as well as frequent veterinary care. Please help us by making donations or volunteering to help.

Finally, please help us promote community awareness by informing others about CAT and about our efforts.
